After steadily losing weight throughout the course of her program, one of my clients suddenly hit a major plateau. Everything we had implemented was continuing to help her get healthy, but no longer helping her lose weight. We needed to change it up a bit. Here are 2 ways we got her from the plateau, over the hump, to having lost 30 pounds by the 5th month of her HHF program:
1. A Morning Workout: 90% of successful exercisers workout in the AM. Exercising in the morning will jump-start your day better than coffee, rev up your metabolism, help you sleep better at night (in comparison to an evening workout), and continue burning calories even after you are finished – which is great before breakfast, but not as beneficial before bed! You also will not want to sabotage your efforts, so you’ll be more likely to make healthy food choices throughout the day.
2. A Large Balanced Breakfast: Most clients I work with (similar to the client we are discussing) have a grab-and-go kind of breakfast, or do not eat breakfast at all. Eating more food early in the day keeps you from “starvation eating” later on. It also jump-starts your metabolism. When you don’t eat breakfast, you are actually fasting for 15 to 20 hours, so you’re not producing the enzymes needed to metabolize fat to lose weight. Make sure to have a large amount of protein to keep you satiated until lunch, paired with a bit of grain, fruit and veggies.
